In a mainstream school the teacher teaches the children, whereas here the children are empowered to learn by themselves.
The Board decides what the child has to know and how much he needs to know of a subject. Here child the decides what he learns and how long he dwells on the topic.
In a school the child learns from books within the four walls. Here the entire world is the child’s school and he learns from very many sources – the internet, books, experts in the field, from friends, from parents and teachers.
Children in school prepare themselves for exams while these children prepare themselves to fix a broken tap, to make dinner, to change the car tyre, to weave a basket.
The child has the freedom to write, read, move around, climb trees, grow plants, raise pets, cook, draw etc etc whenever he chooses to.
While children learn to take instructions these kids learn to take decisions and the responsibility that goes with the decision and the consequences.
The Mainstream schooling deprives children the pleasure of the process of learning- the ability to delve deeper, the courage to challenge the guru for clarifications and the clarity to articulate his interpretations.
In the Mainstream learning happens only in school. Whereas here every moment is a moment of learning in the child’s life and the entire life is a process of learning.
